- Knowing your credit score and what's on your credit report can help you determine what products to apply for. If you have fair credit, for example, you may not want to apply for a card that clearly states that only applicants with excellent credit will be approved.
- If you don't have good credit, you may find it difficult to get approved for a card with a large sign-up bonus and a lucrative reward structure. Each credit card application ends up on your credit report, so the Nerds recommend using our credit cards comparison tool to find a card that fits your credit profile before applying.
- If the card allows balance transfers, you may request to have balances transferred from other credit card accounts to the new card.
- To apply for a credit card in the US, you’ll need a valid Social Security number and a positive credit history. The best rewards credit cards may require at least three to five years of good credit history, and some more than seven.

I've had this card since 1998. Recently I received a bill showing a late payment. I immediately looked for my previous months bill because I pay my bills and file them when I receive them. In short, I didn't find a bill for that month. So, because the amount of the late payment was so low, I went ahead and paid it rather than fighting with Kohls. Then I tried to set up an autopay so that no future bills would be missed even if I didn't received a bill. When I called Kohls Customer Service, I explained all of this to them. They said if I had missed a payment, I could not set up an autopay for a couple of billing cycles. This makes no sense unless Kohls is making extra $$$ by failing to send out statements resulting in late fees. Then, by not letting me sign up for autopay, I can't prevent this from happening again. I told customer service to look at my account history to see that my payments were made on time. This did absolutely no good. I am a MVC cardholder and have a good credit score. No effort was made on my behalf to help resolve this issue. I love to shop at Kohls both in the store and online. If I wasn't such a fan of the store I would cancel this card. However, since their good sales are tied to their credit card I won't. My recommendation to others is to set up autopay before you have a credit issue, because Kohls customer service isn't going to help after you have a problem.
"This is the worst credit card ever!! They never mailed me an actual credit card, So I only had that tiny slip of paper with my account number, which I unfortunately lost 6 months later. I literally could not access my account to make a payment. Even after calling and giving my SS# and DOB, I still could not get my Account Number. I dealt with customer service in the Philippines and was cut off. Then, someone from Mexico City who actually lied and told me he would email my account number. Finally, I finally got a customer service rep in Wisconsin who was able to help, but that was a whole lot of wasted time and frustration just to pay my bill and give Kohls money.Maybe this company should think about keeping its customer service in the USA where the operators actually care about their customers. It was a complete disservice to outsource my call to these other operators who were not helpful at all and literally lied. This Kohl's credit card is not worth the hassle! Don't bother with it. You can still gt Kohl's Cash and coupons without this credit card. Don't waste your time.
"They lost my check that I sent. Charged me a fee. I had the fee reversed. And then they charged me a fee that was double the original fee because I didn't pay the original fee "on time," the original fee that was reversed. Just continued bad customer service!!!!!!!
