How To Apply For A Credit Card
Credit card applications are straightforward, but you'll need to meet some minimum financial requirements to get approved for the best credit card offers. Learn how to apply for a credit online and what to expect after you click submit.
- Knowing your credit score and what's on your credit report can help you determine what products to apply for. If you have fair credit, for example, you may not want to apply for a card that clearly states that only applicants with excellent credit will be approved.
- If you don't have good credit, you may find it difficult to get approved for a card with a large sign-up bonus and a lucrative reward structure. Each credit card application ends up on your credit report, so the Nerds recommend using our credit cards comparison tool to find a card that fits your credit profile before applying.
- If the card allows balance transfers, you may request to have balances transferred from other credit card accounts to the new card.
- To apply for a credit card in the US, you’ll need a valid Social Security number and a positive credit history. The best rewards credit cards may require at least three to five years of good credit history, and some more than seven.

I personally don't have a Sam's Club MasterCard, but an immediate family member does and I paid their monthly bill last month while they were in the hospital. For whatever reason, they declined my payment and that family member (who is now on the other side of the state in a long-term care facility) received a late fee notice for last month's payment this past week. Even though they declined the payment itself, Sam's Club still went ahead, processed the check, and withdrew the funds from my checking account! As far as I can tell, the money was not applied to my family member's account. I tried calling Sam's about the matter this AM, but since I'm not an authorized user on the card nor have PoA, the customer service rep refused to speak to me and immediately hung up. Obviously I'll need some help from a lawyer to handle the matter from here on out, but if you're reading this review and are considering an account with these guys....beware!
"Out of sudden the card quit working. Called the support - they said I missed a payment in spite of I've made a payment a day after I received a notification from Synchrony, and my previous payment was a month ago. Two weeks - the card still doesn't work. Going to cancel that piece of garbage as soon as I collect my rewards.
"I had a 0 balance on my card, then received a new bill with a charge for $22.00. I called to dispute! I spoke to Leo.Who said, don't worry Ms. Smith I'll remove the charge and issue a new card. I was hacked. This was not my charge! Then received anther bill with a late fee!!! And never a new card. Now,as a result of a charge I thought was cleared up......that I didn't-don't owe! I'm in collection!! They have ruined my great credit!!!!! Worse card ever! Don't sign up for this one......you can't get a rep from the U. S. I had to ask for one because I couldn't understand the overseas guy! And he lied to me......saying he/they would not remove charge because I had too many disputes......it was the only one! He put me on hold, and said fraud dept. wouldn't talk to me and that their were other charges pending! After speaking with Leo in the U.S. I found this not to be true! the first rep didn't even call fraud dept and their were no other charges pending!! Liar!! Ms. Smith
"I called to let you know I was traveling to Ireland and Norway to ensure I had no trouble using my card. I pay my bill in full every month. I tried to use my card in Ireland and it was declined. You can take this card and shove it. When I am back in the states I will cancel my card. I will never do business with you again. I have never been so embarked in my life.
"After advising the credit card company about out of country travel, they said "no problem", as soon I tried to use the card they locked it. Made telephone call to unlock they refused. I gave all personal info and more. They had the nerve to ask for a video of myself. I was left without a credit card in a foreign country. When I got back I still had a difficult time to get it unlocked. Terrible service, do not recommend.
